I purchased this Hound figure at a local Walgreens store . I'm not a fan of the show but the action figures look very neat looking and have nice articulation . While you hold this Hound figure in your hands while it is still in the packaging, the figure itself looks very tall in the packaging .However when you remove him he's right around six inches tall . In other words, while in the packaging he looks as if he's seven inches tall, but when removed he looks shorter, it least it seems that way too me .
The Hound comes packaged with two swords and a wolf like helmet , along with an extra sword holder as accessories . While the swords look like they may be the same in the packaging, they are not . If you pay close attention, you can see the differences in the two swords, which are the shape of the handles. Also one has a circular shape at the bottom of the handle and the other sword has a more oval shape at the lower end. With the wolf like helmet, you can partially open and close the mouth .
The sword with the less rounded shape at the handle is the one that's on the figure's back when you remove it from the packaging, whereas the other sword is the one roaming freely inside . When you remove the swords from either sheath, they both make a cool sounding realistic sound effect . You will hear the sound effect of cold hard steel being removed from a sheath, just like real life. I think this is a very neat feature. Make sure that you're not surrounded by a lot of noise so that you can hear it.
On a negative note, the sword with the rounded circle at the handle's end does not fit well in either of the Hound's hands . You may have to pry his fingers open to make him hold this particular sword with either hand. It is very extremely difficult to get him to hold this particular sword. Good luck in trying.
As you can see the sword with the less rounded handle easily fits into his hand . The helmet is a soft rubbery plastic that requires a little bit of prying to put over his head. As for the visual look of the figure's face, I'm not sure if this just applies to my copy of the Hound or all of the Hound figures. If you look closely at the pic below, you can see what looks like hair or peach fuzz on his neck. Or is it a mistake made in the paint application ? You decide below.
Peach fuzz on his neck or a painting error ? What do you think ? If it's meant to be peach fuzz / hair, then kudos to Funko for adding a realistic feature to this action figure. Kudos to them for being creative. If it's a painting error, we can still imagine it as peach fuzz, and just pretend that this guy does not like to shave, lol .
Also, this toy line reminds me of Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia . The Hound himself especially looks as if he could belong to either one of those franchises. As a matter of fact, the Hound reminds me of the six inch scaled Telmarine Soldier figure from the Chronicles of Narnia . Lots of similarities visually between these two figures, armor , chain mail , helmets ,etc. Judge for yourself in the comparison pics below .
FINAL THOUGHTS
( 1 ) ARTICULATION - Excellent articulation . Only drawback in my opinion his that his head does not look upward .
( 2 ) STANDING ABILITY - When you put him in a proper standing stance there are no balance issues.
( 3 ) WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT THIS FIGURE ? The wolf helmet, both of his swords and sheaths, the sound effects of removing the swords from the sheaths, the visual realistic look of the armor and chain mail almost looks like real steel instead of plastic .
( 4 ) WHAT I LIKE LEAST ABOUT THIS FIGURE ? There is nothing that I dislike about this figure.
( 5 ) WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO IMPROVE THE FIGURE ? The only flaw in my opinion is that his head can not move upwards, however I am not bothered by this .
( 6 ) GRADING SCALE - Even though I'm okay with everything about this figure, it still does not get a perfect ten because of the none upward head movement issue. So because of this I give The Hound a 9.8 score on a scale of one to ten . I always use my grading scale for what is missing in a toy , not for what I like or don't like .
( 7 ) FINAL ANALYSIS - You don't have to be a fan of the television show to love this figure, or to collect this particular line . Speaking of fans, if you have some Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia action figures in your collection , these Game of Thrones figures will look good standing next to them because of the visual similarities. The Hound is a cool figure with nice accessories and is definitely worth adding to your collection .
