I purchased this Spider-Woman figure at a local Target for around 19.97 . As for the character and the toy, this is actually " Ultimate Spider-Woman " , however she is not called Ultimate Spider-Woman on the packaging , just Spider-Woman . As a character, this is NOT the original Spider-Woman known as Jessica Drew. This version of Spider-Woman is a female clone of Peter Parker . Everything is explained on her Wikipedia profile. You can check it out at the Wikipedia website. This figure is part of the newer version of the Hobgoblin, Build -a-Figure series that is . He too, just like Spider-Woman , is not the original Hobgoblin , but that's a subject to be discussed once I have this build-a-figure complete . In the meantime here's Spider-Woman .
As you can see she is under six inches tall and just a tad bit over five inches tall. Because of the small body frame and shorter height than normal figures, it is easy to see that she is a teenager . This is a great sculpt and great figure, however there is something to gripe about . The hard plastic hair makes her top heavy . The hair adds extra weight to the figure, making it difficult for her to stand properly without falling . I think it is about time that Hasbro eliminate the hard plastic female hair and replace it with a softer rubbery plastic . This may correct the top heaviness issue, since a figure being top heavy causes balance problems . Now for a closer look at the figure using both the flash from my camera and without flash . Again the overall sculpt is amazing and notice that you can even see her chest bone muscles . Excellent attention to detail . Plus the hair has some nice shading with the different shades of brown .
Notice that her hair is designed / shaped as if it is blowing in the wind . It is not placed flat on her head, similar to DCU Classics Aquaman wavy hair as if he's swimming. Spider-Woman's hair being like this means that she was definitely made for airborne poses such as jumping or climbing a wall. And as the majority of us collectors know, the air poses can be pulled off with a flight stand . Also notice that both of her hands are in different poses . A closed fist and an open palm. I love figures with different looks for each hand because this feature allows multiple display options . This means we can pose her to punch someone in the face or grab them by the neck , etc . Now for a look at Spider-Woman compared to the second version of Spider-Girl , the other female figure that she is sharing the spotlight with in this series .
As you can see these two figures biggest differences are their hands. Spider-Girl has both of her hands in web shooting poses, where as Spider-Woman has the open palm and the closed fist. So this picture should end speculation that these two figures share every body part, however the above picture shows that they clearly do not . I will review Spider-Girl later in the week . Now below is the "Build-a-Figure" piece that Spider-Woman comes with .
Above is the torso of the Hobgoblin . Again this is not the original Hobgoblin, this is the character known as Phil Ulrich from the Amazing Spider-Man comic books.
FINAL THOUGHTS
( 1 ) ARTICULATION - Spider-Woman has good all around articulation, however the hard hair somewhat hinders her looking upwards.
( 2 ) STANDING ABILITY - You would have to adjust her knees a certain way to make her stand properly . The hard plastic hair makes her top heavy , thus affecting balance .
( 3 ) WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT THIS FIGURE ? - The different poses with both of her hands and the overall sculpt and design of the figure .
( 4 ) WHAT I LIKE LEAST ABOUT THIS FIGURE ? The hair is cool, I just do not like the fact it makes her top heavy . Other than this gripe the figure is perfect.
( 5 ) WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO IMPROVE THE FIGURE ? Make her hair into a softer lighter plastic if that is possible . This would eliminate the top heaviness .
( 6 ) GRADING SCALE - From a scale of 1-10 I give this figure a 9.5 . The minus is for the top heaviness affecting her standing ability .
( 7 ) FINAL ANALYSIS - Overall Ultimate Spider-Woman is a great action figure . However the issue with the hard plastic hair on female figures must be addressed. I also love the fact that the Spider-Man army ( spider people other than Peter Parker ) keeps growing and growing . This version of Spider-Woman is definitely worth adding to your collection .
