Welcome to the first of a Series I call LATE REVIEW !!! The reason it is called that is because these are figures that are older and have debuted in the previous year or years. This Maz Kanata figure came out last year but I'm reviewing her now in 2018, thus labeled a LATE REVIEW . When I first saw this character I thought it was originally a male . Then later discovered that Maz Kanata is a female alien with a background as a pirate , thus explaining the treasure chest as an accessory . If you google Maz Kanata there are some pics in my opinion where she looks feminine, definitely more feminine looking than this toy, although the toy does look cool and it is cool . I purchased this figure of Maz Kanata at a local Walmart for around the $ 19. 99 price range .
Maz is just a cool all around figure . I love her jewelry and all the gold she is wearing. All of that gold on her definitely proves that she has a pirate background, since gold is an item pirates are known to pursue . Look closely and you'll notice that Maz's fingers are decorated with rings , on both the right and left hands . Maz has some nice items on her belt . Look closely and you'll see what appears to be a pair of keys and a pouch . Maz's vest is removable also if you wish to display her without it .
Maz Kanata's goggles can easily be lifted up and down . You have the luxury of displaying her with the goggles or without .
As you can see Maz Kanata comes with the above three accessories, unless you count her goggles as a fourth accessory . Her rifle seems to be like a combination of a sniper and a rocket / missile launcher . The treasure chest from a distance looks as if it's made out of real wood . Great attention to detail . I'm not sure what the silver accessory is .
As for the contents of the treasure chest , it is difficult for me to determine what the items are . One of the items looks to be a canister used for drinking . As you can see the chest easily opens and closes .
Maz is one of the shortest Star Wars characters in the history of the franchise . As you can see the figure is slightly under four inches tall . Now let's see how Maz compares to other diminutive characters of the Star Wars universe .
As you can see Maz is definitely taller than R2-D2 . I'm not to sure about the Yoda figure above because that Yoda figure is one I'm kind of nervous about opening . I'm waiting on a possible re-issue of Yoda by Hasbro, because the current Yoda is attracting decent money on E-Bay when carded. Plus he looks pretty cool inside the packaging . Now for a comparison of Maz to a character that I'm sure I'm not the only one that thought she looked like E.T .
When comparing the two side by side , you'll notice there are more differences than similarities . Orange eyes compared to blue eyes . Their heads are shaped differently . The noses are shaped different . Maz has a human looking nose, compared to E.T having more of a snout like an animal .E.T almost literally has no forehead, Maz does . Even their skin color is different. Maz is a mixture of brown and orange whereas E.T is like a mixture of pink and a brownish orange .
FINAL THOUGHTS
(1) ARTICULATION LIMITS - Only upward head movement and no ab crunch are the limits. The rest of the articulation is well rounded .
(2) STANDING ABILITY - The figure stands very well without balance issues .
(3) WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT THIS FIGURE ? - The goggles are cool and fun, allowing multiple display options . I love her treasure chest . Maz is a fun figure all around. I love her gold jewelry too . It's neatly decorated .
(4) WHAT I LIKE LEAST ABOUT THIS FIGURE ? There is nothing that I dislike about this action figure .
(5) WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO IMPROVE THE FIGURE ? No improvements needed .
(6) GRADING SCALE - I could find no flaws so I give Maz a Perfect 10 !!!
(7) FINAL ANALYSIS - A cool figure with cool accessories , Maz is definitely worth adding to your Star Wars Black collection .
