One big name fictional character that most people identify Harrison Ford with is Indiana Jones . However he was first best known as Han Solo in the Star Wars series before becoming Indy . And Hasbro has made an excellent likeness of a younger Ford with this Black Series two figure . I purchased Han Solo from the same Target store I purchased Princess Leia . Both are around the 19.99 price range . Of all of the Star Wars Black figures released up to this point, Han seems to come with the most accessories . He comes with an extra pair of hands, two fire arms, and two belts with holsters attached to carry the pistols.
Out of the two belts, the white one you see in the pic above is the one that Han is packaged with wearing . The extra set of hands are partially gloved compared to the original hands having no gloves. I assume the second pair of hands are for driving / flying , piloting a ship . As you can also see the white belt has what seems to be cartridges or blanks for his firearms. There is a shorter gun and a longer one. Both weapons fit nicely into Han's right original hand. This particular right hand of Han is in a nice trigger finger pose . Both belts also contain a holster for storing either gun . It is extremely difficult to get both belts on Han at the same time, you can try but it's not easy. One of the main differences between the two belts is that the brown one has a strap that can fit around Han's left knee.
I on one hand can't make up my mind which belt I like best. The good thing is you have the options of displaying Han with either one or using one of them on another action figure . I also don't know which one of his guns I like best . They both are very neat looking and nicely detailed with realism . Han is also one of the taller figures when you remove him from the package .
As you can see Solo is right at six inches tall . This is how he originally looks while in the packaging . You can decide for yourself of which belt you think looks the best on him in the comparison pic below .
If you want to, you may can even consider Han Solo's vest as a bonus accessory . Even though it is packaged with him wearing it , it is indeed removable. It two is very detailed . With pockets on the front and back. When you look at the back of the vest / jacket , it looks as if he can store more stuff in them. Especially that big lower pocket that is below the four in the back .
As for Han Solo the figure , he is one of my most favorite Star Wars Black figures. I love how his hair is sculpted, with his bangs sculpted above his forehead instead of being sculpted onto it, adding a realistic look. He has this serious business like expression on his face, as if he's ready to go into battle. His shirt even has wrinkles in it . And his boots are a nice shiny black and he has this perfect stability to stand at any pose without falling . Can't wait to pose him next to his buddy Chewbacca .
FINAL THOUGHTS
( 1 ) ARTICULATION - Perfect articulation . Almost every joint you can think of is articulated .
( 2 ) STANDING ABILITY - The figure has some of the best balance issues of any action figure, not just Star Wars Black figures . No balance issues the figure stands perfectly without falling .
( 3 ) WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT THIS FIGURE ? The articulation , the extra accessories , and the fact that we have one of Star Wars' main good guys so early in this toy series.
( 4 ) WHAT I LIKE THE LEAST ABOUT THIS FIGURE ? The only thing that bugs me about this figure is that the original hands are extremely tough to remove. This is why you do not see a pic of him with the extra hands in this review. You see, I always worry about breaking something when it comes to situations like this. The wrist pivots when you pull on them feel like they're going to snap .
( 5 ) WHAT CAN BE DONE TO IMPROVE THIS FIGURE ? Despite the original hands being somewhat difficult to remove , I really can't think of any improvements for the figure at the moment . It's almost a flawless figure in my opinion .
( 6 ) GRADING SCALE - On a scale of one to ten I give this figure a 9.8 . The minus is for the situation I mentioned with the hands. This version of Han Solo is one of my favorite action figures period . Not just one of my favorite Star Wars Black figures , but one of my favorites overall of any toy line .
( 7 ) FINAL ANALYSIS - Overall there is quite a bit to like about this Han Solo figure .The overall sculpt. Nearly perfect standing ability. The two belts , the vest /jacket , the firearms , the extra pair of hands . The inclusion of one of the main good guys so early in the line . Also this figure is perfect for customizers. It gives customizers multiple options. They can transform Han Solo into a six inch Indiana Jones if they want to . Although that would take a ton of work on their part . And they can use one of the extra belts and extra hands to make characters from scratch . So if you don't have him already, I recommend you pick Han Solo up .
I keep thinking i should pick this one up along with Greedo.
